Dear Reader,

I was born in August 2000 in Regina Mundi Hospital, Idi-Oro, Lagos.

And I lived with my parents on a street which is located right under the popular Ojuelegba bridge — Ajigbeda Street.

I can clearly remember back then, I used to cry and cause commotion whenever it was time to go to church.

Not that I don’t like churches, but I just didn’t understand the real reason behind going to church.

Left to me, I would rather play a video game on my desktop computer than spend my Sunday morning and afternoon reading a book written in old, complicated English and standing for hours to honour a God I cannot see.

But something strange happened in 2012 between my neighbours that changed everything for me.

You see, if you are familiar with the middle-class Lagos landlords, you’d know they divide their land into two.

The first half is for shops, which are usually in front, and the second half is for residential apartments, which are usually at the back of the shops.

My family lived in one of the apartments at the back, and my mom had a shop at the front where she sold foodstuffs and beverages.

One day, the landlord's family had a serious fight, resulting in a separation of properties. Some shops were damaged and taken over by members of the landlord’s family.

Although my mom’s shop was left untouched, many traders lost their shops to the fight.

There was one trader who was affected, a single mother who lived in her shop with her little son.

After her shop was broken down, she was practically homeless.

All her stuffs were exposed to thieves outside.

No one could help her because the other traders who were not affected had no extra space to accommodate her stuff, except for one kind man who sold films in Compact Disks (CDs) and also had a mini-game room in his shop.

He rearranged his shop to create more space for her to accommodate her, her son, and all of her valuables.

It was really tight for him, but he did it out of his kind heart.

So, the agreement they had was that she would wake up very early in the morning to have her bath and that of her son, then go outside to shade her goods so he can have his shop to himself.

Then, she can retire back to his shop around 8 PM when he closes and leaves for his house.

A good and comfortable arrangement between both parties.

Things went okay for about one month until the man began to complain bitterly that he had to do extra cleaning every day because the single mother would mess up his shop before leaving.

On some days, they will quarrel so loudly that the other neighbours begin to worry.

One day, he got fed up and told the woman to pack out, which she did, but it took her 3 days to completely pack out.

Unknown to everybody, in those 3 days, she did something very dark that changed the course of the man’s financial life.

She broke and dug the ground of the shop and buried a brown calabash.

Inside the calabash was the head of a cat and plenty of other rubbish.

After burying the calabash, she cemented the ground neatly, but of course, there were signs that that portion of the ground was newly cemented.

He saw it but paid no attention to it.

He just wanted the woman to leave, which she did.

Right from the time she left, customers stopped coming to the man’s shop to buy CD films.

His mini-game shop, which always had children trooping in immediately after school hours till night, suddenly dried up.

I can remember back then, he used to pursue children out of his shop every morning because many would rather skip school for his game shop. 

All of a sudden, no more children, even on Saturdays.

He later sold his games (4 PlayStations) for peanuts.

No one was interested in buying his CD films anymore, not even to rent them.

A few months down the line, his house rent was due, and he was unable to pay.

He couldn’t even feed properly.

So, he used his shop as his hideout from his landlord, while his wife and children went to stay with a family member far away.

Someone who always paid both house and shop rent, and also fed his wife and three daughters, suddenly could no longer feed himself.

He was so lean a stranger would think he was suffering from kidney disease.

He took loans from several people, including my mom, to pay some bills, but could not pay them back.

People didn’t bother him because they knew he was a kind-hearted man.

Even in the midst of the serious problems befalling him, his generator suddenly caught fire.

His problems continued like that until one night when he was sleeping in his shop, and he had a dream.

He saw a cat running aggressively towards him, and he immediately woke up (according to him).

That night, he did what he had never done in a long time, even though he’s a Christian, but not a serious one.

What did he do?

He prayed.

According to him, he prayed a short prayer for about 2 minutes because he was not used to praying.

After the short prayer, he went to sleep, but could not sleep because his mind kept taking his attention to the newly cemented ground he had long forgotten.

Morning came, and he decided to borrow a hammer from the street carpenter and started breaking the newly cemented ground done by the single mother.

Behold!

He didn’t have to dig deep before he saw the buried calabash.

He shouted and drew everyone’s attention.

A buried calabash with the rotten head of a cat, feathers and many other rubbish inside.

That moment scared me to death. My shirt was soaked with sweat because of intense fear.

Long story short, the calabash was broken into pieces and burnt to ashes.

Mysteriously, that same morning, a man came asking for a particular Yoruba film, and he said he’s been looking for that film for a long time now, and he was directed to his shop.

The single mother is late now.

She died 4 years later after struggling so long with elephantiasis disease in her right leg.

While the man moved out of the shop.

Till I left that street in 2020, not a single soul rented that shop (probably out of fear).

This was when I began to take the teachings of Prof Daniel Olukoya very seriously.

Prof Daniel Olukoya is a Pentecostal pastor and the general overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Worldwide.

But before he obeyed the calling of Christ, he was a renowned scientist.

He graduated from the University of Lagos with a first-class degree in Microbiology in 1980 (his GPA remained the highest before it was recently beaten in 2025).

He didn’t stop there.

He went further to obtain his PhD in one of the most challenging fields in Medicine — Molecular Genetics — from the University of Reading, UK.

A PhD program, which normally takes an average of 5 years to conclude, he concluded in under 3 years. 

He was also a former senior researcher at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR).

He headed a team of four scientific researchers to produce an improved West African pap that cures diarrhoea.

He has written over 400 scientific papers, but he decided to leave his successful career behind and follow Christ.

Since following Christ, he has written over 300 Christian books, but his approach is often seen as laughable, especially by the younger generation.

While many other Christian leaders focus on romanticising the word of God…

While other Christian leaders downplay the use of dark powers, saying no one uses them anymore…

Prof Daniel Olukoya focuses his entire ministry on it. 

He always warned that the riskiest position for any Christian to be in is to be powerless.

I didn’t understand it myself until I saw that strange event.

You see, the heart of man is unthinkably wicked, and the only way to live above the wickedness of man is to be heavily armed and ready for any spiritual attack.

People often laugh at it, calling it outdated.

Thinking no man will go the extra mile to summon dark spirits to perpetrate their wickedness on another man, but they forget so easily that, as long as Africa remains Africa, Africans will continue to use them and even pass them to the next generation.

Our African forefathers have made deep covenants with these dark spirits in the past, covenants that the newer generation knows nothing about, yet we move around like there’s nothing. 

Just recently, the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, revealed in his statement at an event, thanking the Ooni of Ife for removing over 19 shrines before his oil refinery was commissioned in Lagos.

As developed as Lagos is…

The West African megacity still has covenants with dark gods to date.

You cannot afford to bank on luck.

As long as you deal with Africans, there’s a higher risk of being attacked by these dark spirits without even knowing it.

And please bear in mind, just one attack could cause a major setback for a long, long time.

The worst part is…

You could lose your life in the process because the dark world doesn’t care.

All it does is take, take and take until there’s nothing to be taken.

It’s even in the scriptures.

A good example is Mark 5:2-5 (NIV):

A dark spirit possessed a man and gave him an unbelievable strength just to cause harm to himself with stones.

If Jesus had not seen and delivered him, it would have continued until he killed himself.

This could happen to anybody.

Imagine the breadwinner of the family being attacked by the dark world and suddenly running mad, what would become the fate of the children and the rest others that depend on him/her.

Imagine if it were the child, the happiness of the parents would instantly dry up. 

Many years back, an Insurance company that has folded up now, employed an intelligent young man as a junior risk manager. 

Because of his brilliance in managing what type of risk the company should accept and what risk to reject, the company saved 4X more money in 5 months than it has saved in the last 3 years.

That same year, he was promoted to become the general manager of the energy and special risk department.

His superiors, whom he used to answer to, now answered to him.

He died mysteriously the next year in his office with hair growing in his tongue.

At the time of his death, he was already engaged, and he was the firstborn in his family. 

This is why being naive and powerless is the worst position anyone can be in.

Maybe you do not know, in Nigeria, there are thousands of children who do not have parents and are under the guidance of some Alfa (Islamic clerics). 

These Alfas instruct these innocent children to go out and catch red-headed lizards (agama lizards), some are instructed to enter bushes to catch chameleons, and some monkeys.

After these animals are caught, they cut the head off, and they are taught how to chant incantations on them that would later cause harm to others.

Some use it to manipulate people to do things for them they would normally not do, like give them outrageous money or sleep with young ladies that would normally not want to open their legs to them.

Some use it to wreck a man’s life whom they dislike.

And please, don’t get me wrong…

I do not, for any reason, hate the Islamic religion; these are based on facts and confessions made by many who got freed from these Alfas by circumstances.

You can make your own findings; many can still be found in regular mosques on the street.

No wonder 2 Corinthians 4:4 says:

Without complicating things, you can do that in 3 simple steps, but before I reveal these steps to you, let’s briefly go through a particular Bible passage to make things clearer for you…

Acts 19:13-16:

It’s risky for anyone to attempt to fight spiritual battles in the name of Jesus without first building a relationship with Jesus.

You may lose your life trying to do so.

And to build a relationship with Jesus, you need to take only 3 simple steps, which are:

To surrender your life to Jesus, you must confess and believe He’s your Lord and personal saviour.

These are not just mere words, even when many take them for granted.

In every step or action you take, you must ask yourself, 'Does this align with His will?'

But how do you know the will of Jesus?

That takes us to step two…

You cannot know the will of Jesus if you do not make it a duty to become a student of Jesus every single day.

This is why you must make the Bible your everyday go-to book.

Everything about Him and His will is all in the Bible.

You don’t need to read it all at once; all you need to do is be consistent.

One chapter a day or maybe five chapters a day, it could be 3, it could be 10, whichever is convenient for you, as long as you’re consistent.

But it doesn’t end there.

You also have a wonderful opportunity to talk to Him, too.

And you can do that by prayer.

He’s always been there, but He does not force anyone. 

He will draw closer and speak to you only if you draw closer to him.

But there’s an issue here…

Many people get tired and discouraged after staying consistent with Him for only a short time without seeing any obvious progress.

I was once like that until I discovered what is written in Hebrews 10:24-25:

The evil ones love an isolated Christian so they can destroy him/her very easily.

You cannot serve God in isolation; it is impossible to win that way.

There’s so little one man can do, and this brings us to step three.

In my experience, attending church has driven many genuine believers away from Christ more than anything else.

While some may say that those who left were not believers in the first place, the truth is…

There are a lot of atrocities committed in churches, and most of them are covered up.

When genuine people whose faith is not strong see this, they get discouraged and leave because…

It is clearly the opposite of what’s in the Bible.

This is why going to church alone is not enough, because not all who go to church are true believers; some are there to destroy. 

You must find a smaller community of strong believers where you can build your faith in Christ together.

And the good news is…
